Tom played with the defender during his loan spell at Wolves in 2005/06 and is pleased to see that Lescott’s career, like his own, has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Lescott has scored an incredible seven goals from the back so far this season, earning three England caps in the process, so Tom knows we must keep an eye on him tonight.
He said: “Joleon’s been great for the last few seasons now, so it’s no surprise for me to see what he’s been doing this term. But he has excelled since being at Everton.
“I played with him at Wolves during my loan spell there, and he was a key player. The fact that he was injured for their season in the Premier League was probably one of the main reasons they were relegated.
“He has proven this season he can cut it at the highest level, and when he’s played for England he has also done very well.”
At the age of 25, Lescott sums up the young English core of David Moyes’ side, but Tom feels we have similar credentials to a team currently fourth in the table.
He added: “They’ve got a lot of young players like Joleon who are trying to make a name for themselves and they’re exciting to watch.
“But both teams like to score goals and play free-flowing football, so I think the game may be won by a defence at the end of the night.”
