The versatile central midfielder was recalled to the starting line-up for Monday’s 2-1 win at Watford for only his second Premier League start in our colours after making a goalscoring appearance off the bench in Boxing Day’s 3-0 win over Norwich City.
That followed on from his first senior goal for us in the 4-1 Europa League win over Monaco earlier in December, with his maiden domestic start following three days later against Newcastle United.
It’s all added up to quite a month for the 23-year-old, who is keen to build on his recent performances in the New Year following what he admitted was a tough outing against the Hornets.
“It’s been a good spell and I was delighted to get the nod again,” he said.
“It was difficult, Watford were quite direct at times but I thought we dealt with it pretty well other than on their goal and we played some good stuff.
“Switching the play was key really and we kept the ball well. I was fairly happy with my passing, but the whole team played well and it’s a great win.
“It’s come as an extra boost for me as well after the goal against Norwich. It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet so hopefully I can build on that and if I can get a couple more goals before the end of the season that would be great.”
