The central midfielder, a starter in five of our last seven matches in all competitions, including Sunday’s 2-2 draw with the Foxes in the FA Cup, has underlined the importance of this evening’s clash with Claudio Ranieri’s men with both teams currently occupying places in the top four.
With Sunderland also coming to White Hart Lane on Saturday lunchtime, the 23-year-old says six points out of six is the aim as we look to maintain our position in the upper reaches of the table.
“It’s obviously a big game tonight – Leicester are above us at the moment but hopefully we can get the three points and put them under a bit of pressure,” he said.
“They’ve got some good players, their forwards are handy, they’ve got some quick wingers and some strong boys up top, but regardless of whether both managers decide to keep it the same or change things around from the weekend, we’ll look over it and see how we can stop them.
“I think we’ve got to be looking to win the two games this week. They’re both home matches and, playing at White Hart Lane, we’ve got to be confident that we can beat anyone. We drew against Leicester on Sunday but we’ll take a lot of positives from the performance so hopefully we can beat them tonight – and the Sunderland game is one we want to be winning as well.”
With an FA Cup replay at Leicester to come next Wednesday (January 20), the important games keep on coming, but Tom says we can cope with whatever the schedule throws at us.
“We’ve got a good enough squad here to deal with however many games we’ve got,” he said. “Whether the squad gets rotated or not, all the lads are fit and we’re raring to go.”
