Togetherness the key for Mauricio

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about the togetherness taking the club forward.

“This is the core of the club,” said Mauricio, preparing the team for tomorrow’s (Saturday, December 5) trip to West Brom in the Premier League.

“And when you find that - supporters, Chairman, players, staff - this is the most important thing, to stay all together as a unit, to try to win the games and achieve important things.

“This is the right way to achieve these things for the club.

“The most important thing is how our supporters, our people, ‘feel’ the team. The team is a unit and the atmosphere is great. We’ve an unbelievable feeling in the dressing room and on the pitch.”

That togetherness is a huge factor in stretching our unbeaten run to 13 matches in the Premier League - a club record - and getting through two tough stints in November.

Last month kicked-off with three matches in six days, ending in a draw at Arsenal and concluded with three matches in a week, with two more London derbies and a trip to Azerbaijan, where we secured our place in the knockout phase of the Europa League with a game to spare.

Mauricio has had the relative luxury of a clear week to prepare for West Brom.

“It’s been a little strange, yes,” he smiled. “But we’re all happy because the players needed to rest. It’s been good for our mental levels.

“It’s been tough to compete in every game, tough games as well, over the last few weeks.”

Asked how he approaches a rare clear week, Mauricio explained: “It’s always about what the team needs - tactical, physical, technical, mental.

“We analyse the players every day. It’s true this week wasn’t easy because the players needed to rest a little, not physically but mentally.

“We’re ready now. The players want to compete well on Saturday in a tough game against West Brom. We’re in a good moment and we want to continue in the same way.”
