Toda to be unveiled at Lane

Posted on 27 January 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our new Japanese signing Kazuyuki Toda will be officially unveiled later today at White Hart Lane.

A hero in Japan, Kazuyuki's arrival has created huge media interest in his home country and it is expected to be one of the most heavily-attended press conferences of its kind in the club's history.

The midfielder agreed terms on Friday and successfully passed his medical over the weekend.

He has already told us that it's his dream to join Spurs - and knows all about our history from one of the club's greats.

The midfielder played in every game for Japan in last summer's memorable World Cup finals and joins us on a year's loan from Shimizu S-Pulse.

He has been granted a work permit and will be the second Japanese player to feature in a Premiership squad.

Kazuyuki said after signing at the Lane: "It feels really great to be here. It has always been my dream to play in the Premiership, now this dream has come true.

"I have watched quite a lot of English football on TV and a lot of Tottenham games, so I already have the impression of this team playing very fast football with some great players.

"I know very well some great names from Tottenham’s history such as Steve Perryman and Ossie Ardiles - who have been my coaches in Japan - Jurgen Klinsmann and of course Glenn Hoddle.

"Steve Perryman was my coach at Shimizu S-Pulse for five years, he told me about the history and tradition of Tottenham and told me the experience of playing for the club will be fantastic but also I know it will be a big challenge."
