We followed up on last weekend’s 1-0 victory at Sunderland with a 3-1 home triumph over Azerbaijani side Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday night, with Belgian international Toby ever-present at centre-half for both matches.
Now, as we get ready to take on Alan Pardew’s high-flying Palace side, the 26-year-old would love to make it three wins out of three – but he’s warned that all our players will need to stay on top of their game if we’re to get the right result.
“Palace are a very good team so it’s going to be difficult, but at home we always have to try hard and when we play our best football we can beat everyone,” he said.
“It’s always nice to have a victory and start well in Europe like we did on Thursday, especially in a home game.
“You want three points and we did a good job, but now we are focused on Sunday.
“Crystal Palace have good strikers and they’re in a good moment so we have to be on top of our game – all the team does.
“We’ve had two wins in a row so that’s good and now we’ll try to make it three wins.”
Sunday’s contest is the second of four home games in nine days for us, but Toby isn’t daunted by the prospect of so many matches in a short space of time.
“You just have to go game-by-game and don’t think too much into the future,” he added. “As long as you have a good recovery after each match you can just go on.
“Top teams have to play these games so it’s important to keep going and don’t think too much about the other games in the future.”
