The Hammers come to White Hart Lane having amassed the same amount of points as us so far this season – 21 – but perched just behind us on goal difference.
Various circumstances meant Belgian international defender Toby didn’t get to face them during his season on loan at Southampton from Atletico Madrid last term, so our forthcoming clash represents something of a first for the 26-year-old.
Clearly pleased with our good form prior to the international break, Toby says he’s relishing the challenge ahead – but he insists we’re not taking anything for granted as we bid to extend our domestic unbeaten run into a 12th game.
“It’s a big challenge because West Ham are playing very well and they are near the top places in the league with us,” he said.
“They’re a very good team so it’s going to be difficult for us, but we are in a good moment as well. Everybody is doing well and there is a lot of confidence among us, but I feel we are not over-confident.
“We are where we are because we work hard and when we do that our quality can make the difference. The first thing we have to do is work hard and that’s what we’re going to do on Sunday.
“It’s true that I haven’t played West Ham yet. The first time Southampton played them last year I wasn’t at the club yet and for the second game I was injured, but it’s a London derby for us now and it’s a special match.
“We always want to win at home and because both teams are doing well it’s going to be a massive game. I’m really looking forward to it.”
