The Belgian international centre-half enjoyed another solid outing, which included a crucial block to deny Damien Delaney a certain goal in the second half, as we came back from 1-0 down to run out 3-1 winners at Selhurst Park.
Reflecting on the performance, Toby declared: “It was a well-deserved victory. In the first half we had some chances – Danny (Rose) had a chance but it was a lucky save from them – and we played some good football.
“Unfortunately we went 1-0 down because of an own goal by Jan, but I think we showed a lot of character in the second half.
“We had a little bit of luck, they had a little bit of luck but at the end I think it’s a well-deserved victory. The next league game is Norwich away so that’s a tough away game as well, but of course we can enjoy this result a little bit now.”
The main talking point after the Palace game was, of course, Dele Alli’s fantastic turn and volley to put us into the lead. Toby was full of praise for the young midfielder, not only for the technique he showed but also for the 19-year-old’s overall contribution to the team.
“It was very nice because we really needed that goal to get to 2-1,” he added. “It was wonderful – Dele is in a good period, everything that he touches turns to gold and he’s working hard.
“Hopefully he can keep to this level until the end of the season because he’s helping us.”
