The London Evening Standard ran the story as a back page lead on Monday and the Daily Star and Mail also carried reports on Tuesday.
It is suggested that the Lancashire club are prepared a £1m promotion bonus in a bid to lure Sherwood away from White Hart Lane and it is claimed that Rovers have already had a £3m bid rejected.
Rovers, third in the first division with a game in hand on second placed Bolton, were said to be willing to increase Sherwood’s salary by as much as £7,000-a-week.
But our director of football suspects that the forces of a larger-than-life agent are at work with this bout of speculation.
"We have had no contact at all from Blackburn Rovers," confirmed Pleat. "This looks like a case of a monster, monster agent trying to make monster, monster mischief."
David Pleat has scotched talk linking Tim Sherwood with a return to Blackburn Rovers.
