Tim: Let's stick together

Posted on 4 November 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Tim Sherwood has a simple message going into Saturday’s clash against Sunderland: “Let’s stick together.”
The ever-honest midfielder concedes that all has not been well in the last few weeks but he is determined to put things right.
That starts at the Lane against Sunderland when we will attempt to preserve our unbeaten record at home in the Premiership.
“It’s been a difficult few weeks for us,” admitted Sherwood. “There have been some not very good results and not good performances but it’s important for us to get a result and we’ve got to all stick together as a club as a whole. Hopefully then we can get ourselves out of it.
“You’ve got to remain positive. I’ve been in this position before and there is no other way to get out of it but to work hard and stick together. That’s all we can do.
“That’s not only the team on the pitch but the club as a whole.
“As I’ve said in the past, we all want to be successful whether it’s the supporters, tea ladies or players. We all want the same thing so let’s stick together to achieve it. We’ll be trying our hardest to do that.”
Stand-in skipper Sherwood is well aware of the potential threat of Sunderland’s deadly duo of Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn.
Phillips has taken the Premiership by storm in the last 18 months but Quinn has done the damage against us — including a brace at the Stadium of Light last season.
Sherwood said: “They’ve got two excellent strikers who I think make one of the most potent strike forces in the Premier League.
“It’s up to us to combat that and, as we did in the last game of last season, hopefully we can then impose ourselves on them.”
Speaking of goals, Sherwood bagged 10 from midfield last term — despite a three-month injury absence — but has not scored since finding the net against Sunderland in this corresponding fixture last May.
He added: “It’s a bonus if I score. To be fair, I’ve only had about one chance and that was against Derby. Maybe I’ve got to get myself forward more into the positions to score the goals.
“At the end of the day it’s just important to win the game and I don’t worry about myself really.”
By Paul Miles
To listen to Tim's interview, click here
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
