As widely predicted, Michael Carrick came in for his first World Cup appearance as a holding midfielder in the 1-0 win against Ecuador in the second round.
He joined Paul Robinson and Aaron Lennon, a late substitute, in Stuttgart's Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion on Sunday afternoon.
Michael produced the sort of game we saw at Spurs throughout last season and won rave reviews from BBC pundits afterwards. Robbo was forced into one fine save in the second half and Aaron did exactly what was asked of him in the final five minutes or so.
England now take on Portugal in the quarter-final on Saturday.
