Jan Vertonghen insists the squad is relishing this high-profile run of matches in the Premier League and Europa League.

This is why we play football...

After the dramatic draw at Lyon, the thrilling win at West Ham and victory in a key North London derby against Arsenal, the blockbusters continue with Inter Milan arriving at the Lane for the first leg of our Europa League, Round of 16 tie on Thursday.

We then go to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday before the return leg against Inter at the San Siro on Thursday week, March 14.

“This is why we play football,” said Jan. “It’s a tough week, a tough season, actually. We started the week well at West Ham and we needed the win against Arsenal. That was a fantastic and now we prepare for Inter. No doubt it’s a special time for the fans as well.”

Meanwhile, Jan was naturally delighted with Sunday's victory against the Gunners - his first North London derby at the Lane and first victory.

"I only arrived at the club six months ago but you can feel this is one of the most important games of the season," he said.

"It’s my first win in the North London derby, so I’m happy. We had a difficult 30 minutes but we stayed compact, stayed playing as a team and the goals were great for us.

"We said don’t concede an early goal in the second half like at United, but we’re a very strong team, we can play compact and we showed that again."
