Manager: Ray Hudson (pictured): Newcastle-born Hudson was named boss at DC in January 2002 after turning Miami Fusion into a title-challenging outfit. He started his playing career at St James before joining the NASL revolution with Ford Lauderdale Strikers in 1977. He retired in 1992 but stayed in the game as director of coaching at Hollywood Wildcats and coach at University High School Nove Southeaster before taking his post at Fusion and now DC.
Hristo Stoichkov: FIFA Player of the Year after helping Bulgaria to the World Cup semi-finals in 1994, the former Barcelona and Parma striker joined DC at the start of this MLS campaign. Had spells with Al Nasar in Saudi Arabia and Kashiwa Reysol in Japan after the 1998 World Cup. Took the MLS by storm in his first year at Chicago Fire in 2000, hit by injuries in 2001, 2002.
Bobby Convey: Up and coming star of US football, Convey, still just 19, was the youngest player to appear in the MLS when he made his DC debut back in 2000 and is now a mainstay of the side. A talented midfielder, capped at U17 and U20 levels, he is now part of the US national set-up and came on as substitute in last week's friendly against Mexico to earn his eighth cap. Convey caught the eye of Sir Bobby Robson after Newcastle travelled to DC for a friendly in 2000 and was impressive again in the Tottenham Tribute Match at the Lane last October before finishing the MLS season with successive goalscoring performances at the RFK Stadium.
Ernie Stewart: A duel Dutch-American citizen, Stewart has been part of the furniture in the US national team a since making his international debut as a 21-year-old back in 1990. He now has 85 caps and played in every game of USA's magnificent run to the World Cup quarter-finals. Has played all his club career in Holland with VV Venlo, Willem II and NAC Breda. He scored 111 goals in 14 seasons in Holland - making him the highest US scorer in league football outside of the MLS.
Galin Ivanov: Former CSKA Sofia defender joined DC this year. Capped five times by Bulgaria, most recently in the Euro 2004 qualifiers, following 25 appearances at U21 level.
