It was never more evident than seconds after the final whistle of last week’s home draw against West Brom.
Everyone in the stadium was crestfallen - TV cameras picked out Toby, who looked completely devastated - but the fans dug deep with a chorus of ‘we love you Tottenham, we do’ and that meant so much to the players.
“We’re in it together, the players feel it,” said Toby, who outstanding performances earned a place in the PFA Team of the Year. “The fans travel all over the world for us. Even as far away as Qarabag, they were there.
“It’s a great feeling. We know they are there with us and we give everything for them, that’s the desire they want to see.
“And with that desire, strength and physicality there is quality as well and that’s what I think about Spurs, this is a club that breathes quality and with the hard work, the quality will rise and will show, just like this season.”
The result means we trail leaders Leicester City by seven points with three matches remaining in the Premier League.
Leicester travel to Old Trafford on Sunday while we face a third Monday night in a row, this time at Chelsea (8pm). “The fans will be there again and they want to see us win, hopefully we can do it for them,” said Toby.
