The Tottenham Flyer

Posted on 17 September 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Tottenham is welcoming another 'flyer' this season, however their debut will not be on the pitch, but in the station.

'The Tottenham Flyer' is a new train on the Stansted Express line due to be named during a train naming ceremony at Stansted Airport on Monday 15th September 2003.

Football in the Community is working with Stansted Express to highlight to the wider community Tottenham's credentials as an international interchange thanks to Tottenham Hale's prime location on the rail route between Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.

David Lammy MP will be conducting the ceremony, which will be attended by a number of local people along with Councillors from both Stansted and Tottenham, and other dignitaries.

Football in the Community's presence at the naming ceremony will include giving attendees the opportunity to 'beat the goalie' on a smaller scale than usual, with Tottenham's community coaches battling it out at table football.

On Wednesday 15th September 2003, girls and boys football teams from Stansted will be travelling on the train to White Hart Lane to play teams from Tottenham's borough of Haringey, in the Club's indoor facility.

Stansted Express hopes the exercise will help promote the regeneration of Tottenham and the surrounding area. Football in the Community are glad to support this cause and happy with the opportunity to make good links with community football teams and activities in the Stansted area and beyond!
