"First of all I have to say congratulations to the club for signing Gustavo Poyet. I know him very well from Chelsea and I think he played very well for Chelsea, scored a lot of goals and nearly every game he had a chance to score.
"He has a lot of experience. That’s the right idea because we have a lot of young players and with him we have more experience and a goods mix.
"He is definitely a good signing for the club. If he plays like the last games for Chelsea then I know he is a great player and that he will have a good season. The first year is always difficult but I think, with him, we are stronger.
"The club looks for players with a name and experience and that is the right thing because we have young players and they need to have players with experience on their side.
"You can talk to and learn from the older players and then, of course, the younger players can give pressure back to the older players. It is all positive pressure to play in the first eleven.
"I noticed a few newspapers talking about the fact that Gustavo was 33 and Teddy 35 and that now we have a number of older players.
"My feeling is that it is never about age. If you are fit and strong mentally then experience is always importance.
"You can’t always play with players all over 33 or 34, I know, but the mix is very important.
"The young players can have something back from Teddy and Gustavo because those players have the experience to talk to the youngsters and bring the youngsters to a higher level. That is a good mix and all positive pressure to play in the first eleven.
"I hope we can sign Christian Ziege. Christian is a good friend of mine. He just needs a bit of luck. The situation at Liverpool was that he was injured two or three times and in the end the team played well and then you see how strong the Premier League is.
"A player like Christian Ziege, all that experience, is on the bench or in the stand. The situation is perfect to have him because he hasn’t had a good year at Liverpool. If we can sign him it will be a great deal for us.
"I know he’s ready to change. I know that. But he has a contract and you have to find a way and I hope Liverpool understand his situation and, if they let him go, to let him go for smaller money. He hasn’t played this season. I hope Tottenham and Liverpool find a way together.
"If we have Christian, alongside Teddy and Gustavo Poyet, then I think we have a strong squad.
"I like the way from Glenn to bring the club forward. If you want to go for the top six, you have to sign players like that. It’s the level you need to move forward.
"Everyone knows that we need a player on the left side and if Christian is fit then he is one of the best players on the left side in Europe, definitely.
"It is now important that Darren Anderton stays. If Darren is fit he is always in the first eleven. He has the experience and the class to score goals and create goals.
"If we can sign Christian Ziege and re-sign Darren then we will have what we want - every position a good player behind the first choice. That is a positive thing.
"It is looking positive at the moment. If you want to beat the top five teams, Manchester, Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds and Chelsea, then you have to have a bigger squad. It is the only way to do it.
"I hope we have a team to push the club forward and in the end sometimes you have to sit on the bench and wait for your chance. If that happens then we need players with character. Then the club will go forward. That’s what the club is doing now and that is right."
