The England Under-21 winger has joined us from Crystal Palace and hooked up with his new team-mates for the first week of pre-season training at Spurs Lodge on Monday.
“I've seen how the club is going, the players, the staff, the facilities and from where I was looking it was the place to be,” said the 20-year-old.
“I’m just happy to become a Spurs player and I want to play as many games and have as much success as I can with the club.
“I came in for the first time on Monday and met Jermain, Ledley, Tom, Aaron — players I know of or I’ve already played with for England. It’s great to be in an environment where although it’s still new faces, I know about most of them already.
“This will be an ideal place for me to learn and improve my game and hopefully we’ll be picking up trophies as well in the near future.”
Wayne was an ever-present for Palace in the Premiership last season having missed just one game in the Championship in 2003-04 — all that experience and over 100 senior appearances already at the age of 20.
His desire to succeed is clear. “Palace was a good learning curve for me. I played a lot, learned a lot and always gave my all,” he added. “This is a new start for me.
“I just want to play as many games as I can and win something along the way.
“The only thing I’ve ever won is promotion to the Premiership with Palace. It’s every player’s ambition to win things and hopefully with the squad here we can do that.”
Wayne Routledge described us as a club that’s ‘going places’ and pinpointed that as a key reason why he opted to come to the Lane this summer.
