The Perryman Years 4

Posted on 21 June 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Steve Perryman reflects on a return to Spurs to link up with former team-mate Ossie Ardiles and how it all went wrong in the latest part of our video special.

It looked like the dream job. After cutting his managerial teeth at Brentford and Watford, Steve Perryman joined Ossie Ardiles as assistant manager in 1993.

But it wasn’t to be. After finishing 15th in 1994-94 the club was lifted by the arrival of Jurgen Klinsmann but the euphoria didn’t last long, Ossie was sacked after defeat the League Cup against Notts County and Steve left the club the following month.

“It was probably the worst decision of my life to go back to Tottenham,” Steve admitted. “I remember when Ossie left he didn’t hide away and I think he called it ‘the impossible job’ in a press conference.”

It wasn’t long before the pair were back together in a brave new world.
