The boss saw Saturday's narrow defeat at Liverpool as another example of us holding our own with title contenders but coming away with no reward.
We more than matched the current leaders at Anfield but having hauled our way back to level terms, conceded a late penalty in a 2-1 defeat.
Glenn explained: "There is still a lot of hard work to be done, it proved that.
"I think people can see a lot of hard work has gone in, but we've still got to progress to come to the top teams, take them on and beat them. That is the next step for us.
"I liked the way we played at Liverpool. I was very impressed and if we keep performing like that, we'll win more than we lose.
"I felt we played well defensively and with the ball and for long periods were the better team.
"So it was frustrating to go home with nothing again when we've deserved something from the game."
Glenn Hoddle says our next step is to go from competing with to beating the Premiership's top teams away from home.
