The pair came up against each other a number of times with Canadian international Paul at Werder Bremen before his switch to Spurs last season and Bulgarian hotshot Dimitar banging in the goals for Bayer Leverkusen.
Paul said there were always plenty of goals when the pair met - Bayer famously won 6-2 the week after Werder clinched the title in 2003/2004 - and that Dimitar would often score!
“I always thought Dimitar was one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga,†said Paul. “He scores goals and was a handful every time I played against Bayer Leverkusen.
“He was certainly one of the best I came up against during my time in Germany.
“First and foremost he’s a goalscorer - he’s put up the numbers both in domestic and international football. He’s very quick and for his size, he’s very good on the ball and very good technically. He’s the complete player.
“It’s a great signing for the club - one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga. It shows the direction we’re moving in.â€Â
Paul Stalteri recalled his clashes against Dimitar Berbatov (pictured here in the new 2006/2007 home shirt) in the Bundesliga and declared: "He's the complete player."
