The Buchler Files 3

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

More from the THFC Supporters' Trust meeting where David Buchler discussed the increase in season ticket prices.

DB: We have a difficult balance to come to. The balance that we tried to find this season was to recognise that there wasn’t an increase last season and to try and get an increase this season without people necessarily having to pay more for it.

We kept the process the same, but we took two free games, two cup games away from you. Now I have to say to you, we tried not to come in on year one and have massive hikes and ask for huge amounts of more money, and we tried to deal with this in what was, and I hope you will appreciate, a user-friendly way.

I think everybody recognises that expenses go up, wages go up, there are all sorts of things that a club has to pay and it is impossible to keep prices exactly the same for two years running.

So we tried this year to do that compromise, yet it means that you lose two cup games and it means you have the choice of whether you want to pay the money to see those two cup games. If you decide not to you miss two cup games and I accept that, but at least you haven’t paid more than last year and the year before.

It was a compromise, but one thing I do apologise for is that I don’t think we did very well in announcing it first time round. When that was pointed out to us, and that really was a mistake, and I apologise to everybody who was caught up in it. When we noticed that, we tried to go onto the front foot again and say ‘sorry, this is what we mean and this is the situation’.

I hope you accept that we did do that and tried to come back to you.

What I will say to you is that the take up that we have had this year has been exceptional. Even though we sent out season tickets slightly late, we have had a 90-odd per cent take up and have thousands of people on the waiting list for season tickets. This is the first time this has happened in years and years.

The reaction of people, and I get this back from the ticket office, has been far more positive to them about what has happened in relation to season tickets than previous years. So I hope we managed to get the balance right, I don not promise that there won’t be increases in season tickets, but it is a balance.
