The boys did good

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Charlie Daniels mentioned at the end of an interview previewing the Youth Cup tie at Watford that an early goal would be handy - little did he know then he would score it himself after just one minute at Vicarage Road.

With less than 60 seconds on the clock, a break down the left by Andy Barcham led to the striker squaring for left midfielder Daniels - who had cut inside - to knock the ball into the net. Barcham himself doubled the advantage on 24 minutes.

"I said an early goal was important and we had a good start - thankfully it paid off," reflected Charlie in the tunnel area after the game.

"I'm not sure whether I meant to, but I hit it with my right foot and luckily it crept in. I've not scored a lot of goals this season - it was nice to pop up with one instead of Barchy.

"In the second half we had to defend a lot - Phil, Leigh, Charlie and Mark did well for us and it was good. Tommy Forecast also made a couple of great saves."

Charlie admitted there is the desire among himself and his teammates to go one better than the class of 2002, who lost out in the semi-finals against Everton. Of that group, Rob Burch, Stephen Kelly, Paul O'Donoghue, Marcel McKie, Dean Marney, Lee Barnard and Jamie Slabber are still at the club.

"I think there is a little rivalry. We want to be the best youth team group for a while and it looks like we are going in the right direction."

For fellow goalscorer Barcham, the FA Youth Cup certainly appears to be to his liking. The striker has now netted three in the competition, adding to his earlier strikes against Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.

"I do like it, I do!" laughed the scorer of our second on the night. "It is good to score again but going through to the next round is the best feeling.

"I just seem to get a lot of chances and that is credit to my team who create a lot for me. We are together a lot and I know what they are going to do and know where to run - it just works."

While he might credit the team for his goals, it was Andy who set up Charlie for the opener.

"Me and Charlie do that quite a lot, I spin out to the left and he comes inside so I know where he is going to be. We pulled it off here and it was a good finish by him.

"We always knew they would work hard. We thought we might have had to get one more to kill them off as they kept coming at us. We stuck to our guns and did well.

"We have put in good performances throughout the Youth Cup and I think there is still more to come from us as a team."
