Harry Redknapp praised Jermain Defoe’s ability to poach a goal from nowhere after his winner against West Brom and admitted: “That’s what we needed.”
Jermain made it 10 goals for the season in all competitions with a vital strike against a resolute Baggies side on Tuesday night.
Surrounded by defenders, ‘JD’ turned on a sixpence and drilled low beyond Ben Foster from eight yards for the only goal of the game just after the hour mark.
The goal secured a vital three points, consolidated our third place in the Premier League, stretched our run to 13 wins and just one defeat in 17 league games and took Jermain onto 111 goals for the club – one ahead of the great Glenn Hoddle.
“That’s what Jermain is, a goalscorer,” said Harry.
“He turned and just managed to get that one in for us. That was the difference. West Brom made it tough for us, they were difficult to break down.
“He’s always likely to pop up and score a goal like that and it’s just what we needed.”
