The Club would like to thank all of the supporters who have emailed in messages of support to the players in advance of our big match against Arsenal. The response has been quite incredible with over 1,000 messages received so far!
The emails have come from all corners of the globe with some from as far away as South Africa, Australia and The United States. They have also been extremely varied; Some people have taken the time to quote past players, written songs, chants and even poems.
We will of course be passing the best ones on to the players on Sunday, including the one below from Mark McGuckian that captures the general feeling of all the emails we have received:
"Imagine if this was your last game of football ever, regardless of age. You wake up Monday morning never having to train again, never having to worry about matchday, or points or cups. Never wearing a pair of boots again or smelling the freshly cut grass.
"How would you like that game to go? If everyone had to judge you on that 90 minutes, what would you want them to see? How would you want to remember it?
"When the final whistle goes, win, lose or draw ask yourself this: if that had been my last game ever would I be satisfied? Would it be enough to sum up a lifetime of effort? Or would I want one more chance, one last game to show what I can do, who I was, what I meant to football?
"On Sunday don’t play for points, or the shirt, or the fans. On Sunday play for yourselves, walk off that pitch knowing that if you had to you could walk away from football that second, because there is nothing left to prove."
