Teemu Tainio is hoping roles are reversed if he faces Sevilla's dangermen down the right again in tonight's UEFA Cup quarter-final, second leg at the Lane. The midfielder did a fine job down the left to counter the threat of highly-rated right-back Daniel Alves and right midfielder Jesus Navas in the first leg in Seville last week.

Teemu is expected to line-up down the left again as we try to overcome a 2-1 deficit tonight – but this time hopes to be pushing the Sevilla pair the opposite way.

“Alves is dangerous and likes to go forward, but he didn’t get forward too much in Seville,” said Teemu at the Lodge on Tuesday. “Perhaps that was after we clashed heads so early!

“He’s a great player and I thoroughly enjoyed that challenge in the first leg. We haven’t spoken about the line-up yet but if I play I will hopefully try to push him back.

“I’m sure they will stay deep and try to hit us on the counter-attack. They are one of the best teams on the counter, so we have to be aware of that. We also have to take our chances when they come along.”

Teemu was a regular in European competition with Auxerre but doesn’t hesitate when asked where this game stands. “I’ve played many games in Europe and it’s one of the biggest games in my career. We are all determined to reach the semi-finals and we all want to win the UEFA Cup.”
