Teemu Tainio admitted the competitive nature of the Premiership was still a surprise even though he'd prepared for it before his first season with us last term.

The Finnish international midfielder joined us after eight seasons with Auxerre in France’s Le Championnat.

Teemu, 26, impressed in both left and central midfield positions as he made 25 appearances including 22 starts and scored his only goal against Newcastle at the Lane.

He pointed out to us early in the season that one of the main differences he had found was that there were no easy games in the Premiership, no certain wins and it was a battle for every point.

“Every game is a test,†reflected Teemu. “The Premiership is tougher than France and you have to work so hard to win any game, that’s a big difference. I really enjoyed it though.

“I knew what was coming when I moved to Spurs but still it was a surprise once I played how fast the game actually is in the Premiership.

“I think it was important to play well and make such a good start to the season at Portsmouth and it went from there.

“I played most of the time when I was fit and we finished fifth, so we have to be pleased about that.

“I really like England and the Premiership and I thoroughly enjoyed my first season here.â€Â
