The Black Cats slipped to the bottom of the Premiership after conceding an incredible hat-trick of own goals in last week's home defeat against Charlton.
Victors in the FA Cup against Blackburn on Wednesday night, they have won just four of their 26 league games this season and only one away - at Leeds back in August.
But we don't need reminding that one of those wins was against us at the Stadium of Light and skipper Teddy insisted our respective positions in the table doesn't automatically mean it will be a home win.
"Football doesn't work like that," Teddy pointed out. "There are games where you think you should win or you don't think you'll win and it turns around.
"We have to make sure we're on top of our game, our attitude is spot on and we're ready to go.
"These are key games against Sunderland and Fulham but they all are now because there are so many teams vying for European places.
"It's imperative after getting a good result at Chelsea that we take these two home games and really get into them and make sure we get the six points we need.
"We're sitting in a place where we can challenge for Europe but I've said all along there are six, seven, maybe eight teams all looking to get the last couple of European spots.
"It will be tough but we've got the players here to do it and we'll give it our best shot."
Teddy Sheringham has warned that our attitude has to be spot on for Saturday's visit of struggling Sunderland.
