Teddy's ready for D-Day

Posted on 16 November 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Teddy Sheringham admits he cannot wait to get back into the heat of a north London derby.

Our captain fantastic hasn't played in the famous fixture for almost five years - you have to go back to November 1996 for when he last took on the red and white in a Spurs shirt.

Despite that gap, Teddy has lost none of his enthusiasm for the encounter. "It's one of those things as a Tottenham player you know will come around twice a year and it's great to be involved in," he said.

"It's a great rivalry. The supporters look forward to it, the players look forward to it. It's a massive game.

"It will be high tempo, excitable and a game you want to be involved in.

"Since the start of the week we've all been talking about it and people have looked at that fixture since the start of the season. It's a great fixture to be involved in.

"Personally, I don't think there will be any less edge to it. Certainly come three o'clock on Saturday there won't be."

Of course, Arsenal were Manchester United's great title rivals in Teddy's silver-laden years at Old Trafford.

So what did he think of the Gunners of this season? "They are a very good team," he said.

"They are very strong all round and we know we will have to be at our best to beat them.

"They are ahead of us, we know that and that's probably what people have insinuated in the lead up this week. But we know if we produce our best on Saturday we will have a chance of winning."

And, of course, there is that great incentive to win on Saturday - three points will take us ahead of them in the Premiership.

"I looked at that the other day," admitted Teddy. "We're two points behind them with a chance to go ahead of them in the league. It's a great incentive."

Teddy is 11/2 to score first on Saturday and it's 22/1 if it's the only goal of the game - click here for details.
