Few pundits tipped the North East side to make any running in the championship race, let alone comfortably secure fourth and a Champions League qualification spot.
Teddy reasons that this success gives every team optimism that it can be done and that the top four is not a done deal before the season has even begun.
"Definitely, Ipswich the year before," agreed Teddy. "It gives us all hope that if you start the season well and get onto a good run the confidence will come from there.
"But it is all about starting well and we need to get a result, whatever it will be, on Saturday."
The skipper adds that he is eager to open his goal account at Goodison and admits that his goal output needs improving.
"I certainly hope so, I need to score more goals and hopefully I'll start on Saturday by scoring one and we come away with a good result."
Teddy Sheringham says that the example set by Newcastle last season offers inspiration to the chasing pack.
