The second part of an exclusive Spurs TV Online interview with Teddy Sheringham after he was inducted into our Hall of Fame...
Teddy, we all know what you went on to achieve with Manchester United, but in 2001 you returned to Spurs. What influenced that decision?
"I had been with United for four years and was offered an extra year to stay, but when I knew Spurs were interested it was like coming back home. Another two years at The Lane was awesome."
How much did it mean to you that the fans welcomed you back as one of their own?
"Well I got a little bit of stick when I left originally, but I fully understood that and the way fans think. I had to do what I had to do, but they seemed happy enough when I returned, which I was pleased about."
Did you feel there was some unfinished business for you at Spurs?
"There was still quality football to be played and we did play some fantastic stuff during those two years. I also reached a century of goals for Spurs during that time, and looking back on that list of players who have achieved the same thing is great."
After Spurs, was it just a case of playing for as long as you could at the top level?
"I still felt I had something to offer. You hear about players cutting their careers short and I didn't want to do that...I don't think anyone can say I have! Even in my last season with Colchester United, I still enjoyed it, despite the relegation. It was still an experience that might hold me in good stead if I decide to become a coach in the future."
You were inducted into our Hall of Fame. What does it feel like to be named amongst so many Spurs legends?
"There's an awful lot of good players that have played the game, but not many get the chance to play at a club like Spurs. To be up there with the best players in the Club's history, and to be remembered as a White Hart Lane legend, is fantastic."
Finally Teddy, what do you think is the best thing about Spurs?
"There's a real unity about the Club and it's a great feeling when you get out on the pitch. It's something I cherished as a player and I have memories from my time here that I will always look back on with fondness."
