Spurs skipper Teddy returns to his old stamping ground of Old Trafford for a game England need to win to guarantee qualification for Japan and Korea next summer. His club colleague Christian Ziege will be waiting with Germany for any slip-ups.
Teddy scored as a substitute in his last international against Mexico in May but a six-minute appearance off the bench in Albania has so far been his only involvement under Sven Goran Eriksson in a competitive fixture. He wasn't selected for the squads to face Holland in a friendly at the Lane in August or the qualifiers against Germany and Albania at the start of September.
The 35-year-old is one of only four strikers in the squad alongside former United team-mate Andy Cole and Liverpool duo Robbie Fowler and Emile Heskey.
West Ham's Trevor Sinclair and Arsenal's Martin Keown are also back in the squad but Michael Owen, Alan Smith, Sol Campbell and Wes Brown are all injured.
The 23-man squad is as follows: Seaman (Arsenal), Martyn (Leeds), Wright (Arsenal); G Neville (Man Utd), P Neville (Man Utd), Ferdinand (Leeds), Mills (Leeds), Southgate (Middlesbrough), Ehiogu (Middlesbrough), Carragher (Liverpool), Keown (Arsenal), Ashley Cole (Arsenal); Beckham (Man Utd), Scholes (Man Utd), Gerrard (Liverpool), Barmby (Liverpool), McManaman (Real Madrid), Murphy (Liverpool), Sinclair (West Ham); Fowler (Liverpool), Heskey (Liverpool), Andy Cole (Man Utd), Sheringham (Tottenham).
Teddy Sheringham is back in the England squad for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Greece on Saturday.
