Ledley King, Jermain Defoe, Paul Stalteri and Edgar Davids could be in contention for the Portsmouth game on Sunday. The four resumed light training on Friday after missing out on the win over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup.

"Ledley King is a bit better so hopefully he can play and Jermain Defoe is also eager to play," reported Martin, who added the update on Stalteri and Davids and reported that the prospects of Dimitar Berbatov making a return from a groin injury will be monitored ahead of the encounter at the Lane.

"Dimitar is doing a test and if that goes okay we will assess his chances before Sunday's game."

Aaron Lennon (knee), Anthony Gardner (hip, back) and Steed Malbranque (hernia repair) will all be absent.
