The defender has been struggling with a foot problem that has restricted him to one substitute appearance in the last month.
But Head Coach Martin Jol suggested he might return for Liverpool. "He's pretty fit at the moment," said Martin. "He's had a couple of sessions and trained well with the rehabilitation coach so he might be okay.
"He's had problems that started in pre-season but maybe now he can start all over again."
Martin also revealed that centre-back Noureddine Naybet had been nursing a groin injury and Calum Davenport was cup-tied after playing in the competition for Coventry City.
He will certainly be without Sean Davis (knee), Erik Edman (ankle) and Goran Bunjevcevic (shin).
Anthony Gardner could be back in the frame for Wednesday night's Carling Cup quarter-final against Liverpool at the Lane.
