Christian Ziege (thigh) and Gus Poyet (wrist) are the two likely to be missing for the longer term, while Dean Richards, Ledley King, Darren Anderton, Kazuyuki Toda and Fredi Kanoute are unavailable for the trip to St Andrews. Chris Perry is suspended for one game.
"We've got a slight problem with the availability of players - we've got eight first teamers out," said Glenn.
"The good news out of all that is that only Christian Ziege and Gus Poyet are going to be out for any great length of time. The rest will be back in a week to ten days and it is not as bad a picture as it might seem at the moment.
"It is not an ideal way to start the season, but we have three young professionals in the squad for Saturday and we'll be going up there with a relatively young bench.
"It is not a long-term problem for us so it is a good sign."
