Team news: Teddy's ready

Posted on 18 January 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Teddy Sheringham is back from a three-match ban for Saturday's Premiership clash against Everton.

Our striker and skipper is raring to go after missing the first leg of the Worthington Cup semi-final at Chelsea and Wednesday's FA Cup win at Coventry City.

Boss Glenn Hoddle hinted that the break might have done some good anyway.

He said: "It was forced upon us, but I would most probably looked at where I could give him a rest at some stage anyway.

"I probably wouldn't have been three matches, but we would have been aware that needed to be done.

"It was forced upon us, and looking at him it's done him good.

"I've given him a rest, he's not trained particularly hard, we've let him have four or five days off and now he's building it back up again.

"He looks fresh, he's now got a Saturday game and he will probably need that before the massive semi-final."

Glenn was delighted there were no further injuries at Highfield Road to add to the sidelined Christian Ziege, Steffen Freund, Stephen Carr (all knee), Stephen Clemence (groin), Goran Bunjevcevic (thigh) and Chris Armstrong (hernia).

And he suggested that it was time some of the younger members of the squad pushed themselves forward.

He added: "John Piercy was in the squad at Coventry, Alton Thelwell, whose been on the bench already, they haven't had an opportunity yet.

"Matthew Etherington is back and came on against Ipswich.

"He did well at Bradford and looks like he's learned a little, he has a bit more stature, more belief about himself. These are the players who have to come to the fore and show what they can do."
