Glenn Hoddle is hopeful that Les Ferdinand will be fit to face Newcastle United on Wednesday.
The in-form striker suffered a neck injury last week and was not on the teamsheet against Bolton on Saturday before the FA Cup tie was washed out.
But Glenn revealed: "Les is recovering well, it's improving by the day. We're hoping he'll be ready in time."
Anthony Gardner's knee problem, sustained against Chelsea, is not as bad as first feared and he has 'an outside chance' of being ready for Wednesday.
Glenn said: "We were a bit worried about it but it's not too bad, so that's good news.
"He just has to let the tissue heal around the knee and ankle. He has an outside chance for Wednesday."
Dean Richards, cup-tied from our last game against Chelsea, is expected to start anyway.
That leaves Steffen Freund, Christian Ziege, Stephen Carr (all knee), Stephen Clemence (groin), Goran Bunjevcevic (thigh), Gary Doherty (broken leg) and Chris Armstrong (hernia) on the sidelines.
