The Cameroon international picked up a foot injury at Chelsea on Sunday where he had to be substituted in the second half and was rested from Wednesday night's Carling Cup win at Oldham.
"Atouba is the main problem," said Jacques at his pre-United press briefing. "We will wait until our last training session but maybe it's not possible he can play on Saturday."
Otherwise, midfielders Sean Davis and Michael Carrick remain out. "It will still be 10 days for Michael Carrick but there is a possibility that Sean will be able to have a training session this weekend," added Jacques.
Erik Edman and Noureddine Naybet will come back into the squad after being rested during midweek.
Thimothee Atouba is Jacques Santini's biggest concern before the big clash against Manchester United on Saturday.
