Early exits from the FA and Worthington Cups hurt everyone at the club but as the defender explained, the occasional break will leave the squad refreshed for the vital league run in.
Indeed, we played 19 games between January 1 and April 1 last season - this time around, we'll play only 11.
Mauricio said: "Probably this year is almost an advantage to us not to be in the cups and hopefully that will give us that little extra.
"We've had a little rest and now this is a massive game because we are only playing Premiership games and we need to get into the UEFA Cup. That is very important for us.
"In the last few years we've been in this position and not managed to break into the top six. That is our aim and hopefully we can do it. We are working to get that place and hopefully we can achieve it."
Mauricio Taricco believes being out of the cups will give our push for Europe via the Premiership that extra edge.
