Mauricio Taricco says Liverpool winning the Worthington Cup should have little bearing on the outcome of Sunday's encounter at the Lane.
Liverpool beat Manchester United to win the first silverware of the new season and a guaranteed place in Europe for next season. The next target for the Reds is to upgrade from the UEFA Cup to a lucrative Champions League berth.
With us hunting a European spot also, there is all to play for for both teams on Sunday, but Mauricio says his pre-match excitement does not vary according to the opposition.
"The week before every game I am looking forward to it," he said. "Liverpool are a big team, but there are others and it means three points to us - that is the way I look at it.
"They won the Worthington Cup and will be on a high, but sometimes that can work the opposite way. You win it and then you start dropping points.
"I don't look at them too much, I think forward and think we can lift our game a little bit because we haven't been performing as well as we should.
"Against West Ham we didn't perform and lost so now we have to look forward and try and get the three points in this one. It won't be easy.
"They are also in a position where they have to win points to get where they want to be, but we are at home and haven't got the recent results we wanted so that gives us an extra bit that will push us to go and get it."
