Standing at six foot, two inches, Michael Dawson is used to looking down at most of his opponents - the exception to the rule arrives at the Lane on Saturday.

Peter Crouch, who towers at six foot, seven inches tall, was back in Liverpool’s starting line-up in the 1-0 loss at Blackburn on Boxing Day and likely to feature again at some stage in this key Premiership encounter, with Rafael Benitez tending to pick two of three from Crouch, Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy.

It’s been quite a year for Crouch, a former Spurs trainee, that included a spell of 11 goals in 10 games for England.

Michael has got to know him better in his tme with the England squad and said: “Crouchy is a top guy who has had a bit of stick in his time but he’s one of those lads who never lets anything get him down.

“Once he started scoring for Liverpool he went from strength to strength, scored his goals for England and he’s a real handful.

“We can’t be too sure he’ll start though. Normally you have an idea who is going to be playing but Liverpool have so many options and top-class centre forwards.

“I’m sure they will be determined to rebound from the loss against Blackburn. I watched the highlights of that game and they had a lot of chances, but it wasn’t to be. Hopefully on Saturday they won’t have as many chances and we’ll continue our home form.”
