TALKING WORLD CUP

Posted on 8 June 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat continues his assessment of games he's attended, this time casting his eye over the players of Brazil and Turkey in Group C.

THE BRAZIL TEAM displayed all the flair that we expect to see from football's purist exponents.

Even Denilson, when he came on late in the game, showed the massive strength they have in reserve. Ronaldo looked back to a sense of urgency and every time he had the ball he tried to attack defenders in a direct fashion.

Rivaldo spoilt himself and should have had a far greater punishment for theatrics.

I felt somewhat sorry for the Turkish players who played tactically very well. In midfield Basturk, Tugay and Emre all showed what good close passing skills they have.

But the man who caught my eye for Turkey was Sas, the shaven-headed player, who dropped deeper than Hakan Sukur and was a most lively and ambitious forward.

His work rate was tremendous and it is lucky for Galataseray that they currently pay him good money because he will surely be a target for the European powerhouses.

I hope Turkey can qualify, Brazil seem certain to progress.
