TALKING WORLD CUP

Posted on 9 June 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ahead of the surprise cruch clash between South Korea and the USA, David Pleat looks back at their opening game against Poland - one he describes as a 'fantastic experience'.

IT WAS A fantastic experience just to be at the game between South Korea and Poland.

The co-hosts played with a passion and vibrance that no other team so far has matched and fully deserved their whirlwind win.

The experienced Hwang took his goal well, but where was the marking. I liked Kim and Yoo in midfield.

Ironically, at the end of the game, both scorers were off the field - Yoo and Hwang. Song was an able captain and everyone in the stadium bar handful of Polish supporters revelled in the result.

The country came to a standstill throughout the evening and the television carried pictures of the goals, the manager and the public celebrations continuously the following day.
