We have accepted that fact that we cannot control the newspaper flow of transfer and contract links and it is now part of the game. In actual fact, Simon has signed no new deal as, in fact, have none of the boys signed from lower league clubs done so far.
However, we will be looking at the contracts of all the younger players and reviewing in the new year - and that would include Simon Davies.
It has also been suggested in the national press that we have approached agents to try and negotiate moves for players. I am particularly talking about the Sergei Rebrov situation.
Any team who is aware of European football in whatever country is aware of any major player, in any position, who is out of the team at his club. We do not have to court the value of Sergei to Lazio or any other team.
In football, the way the economics have gone over the last few years, although players might not be on the transfer list at any time, indirectly all players have a price and IF we were to receive an offer for any player it would be accepted or refused on its merits.
We have had no offer for Sergei, nor have we invited any officials from Lazio or any other club to come to England and speak to us and nor has any club contacted us with a view to a meeting.
However, we are not naive, and clubs who know their business will be aware that our three-pronged attack of Ferdinand, Sheringham and Poyet has not only been eye-catching, but successful. So far Sergei has found it difficult to grab a regular place.
Our supporters would be the first to know, from official sources, if there was any news regarding our forward players.
Talking of forward players, Chris Armstrong is on course, after a horrific 2001, to play again at the end of February. This is wonderful news for Chris who has had very little to cheer over the last year.
On our younger forwards, we have had an approach from France regarding our reserve striker Yannick Kamanan. A first divison club has asked for his services until the end of the season as a loan player and we may consider this.
IT WAS WIDELY reported last week that we had done a new deal for Simon Davies - it is not so.
