Talking Saints

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Southampton look to me as being a solid side and certainly look to be defending well. If you defend well it is usually because everyone is working hard, not neccessarily because of any individual defenders are particularly doing well.

They have a work ethic, people like Marsden and Telfer, those who are playing in front of the back four like Oakley and even the front players - Beattie and Phillips. They all work to get behind the ball when they lose possession.

I know the goalkeeper Jones is having a good season and Niemi has lost his place but, generally speaking, they have started the season very well.

They have had a similar policy to us at Southampton, they've signed people like Fitz Hall from Oldham this summer and last season they signed a young player from Swansea, one from Torquay - a philosophy that brings you a better back-up, slowly, to the senior squad.

I think they are sensible at Southampton, they manage according to their means and are now up to 30,000 a game with their new stadium.

I've got a feeling that manager Gordon Strachan is learning very quickly and is very dedicated. In fact I know he is dedicated - he watches games and works hard. I like his sense of humour as well!

People talk about our recent home record against Southampton being good and our away one poor - I'm one of these stange people that doesn't really follow the record books. If I did, I would have known in advance that we would have got beaten at Chelsea on Saturday.

Every game is different and once that ball rolls something can happen that can turn a game. Just because we have done well at home against Southampton and not so away doesn't mean that this season we won't win at St Mary's and maybe not win at home.

I don't take too much notice of statistics, the Southampton team we played last year or the year before will probably be different to the one we face this year and, by the same token, we have also changed four or five individuals.

We want to win this game, we have not done too well in the last two and need to win. Hopefully we'll get a good start and will go on, play with spirit, with skill and will turn the corner again.
