Should the boys overcome City the schedule will be extended to take in a trip to Manchester United in the 5th round, but the acting boss is taking nothing for granted.
"It is a very tough game and we are more than aware of that - we have three tough games in the next seven days before, hopefully, we go to Manchester United in the next ten days," he reasoned. "It is a hard programme and we need our players fit.
"It is a cut and thrust cup tie in the offing. Cup nights at Tottenham are very special under the floodlights. Can we acheive? We'll see, if our attitude is good and we approach the game in the right way we have every chance."
Dean Richards is back in the squad for tonight, while there is doubts over Mauricio Taricco and Gary Doherty, with Darren Anderton absent.
"We've had one or two under wraps in terms of recovering from injury - Mauricio Taricco and Gary Doherty, who took a knock on Saturday. Gus Poyet returns to the fold after suspension.
"Darren Anderton won't make this one, but will be available on Saturday before serving a one-game suspension.
"Generally speaking, things are getting back into the groove, Christian Ziege got an important game under his belt on Saturday. He is now back on track and there is a lot of competition among the young midfield players - people like Ricketts and Jackson are all eager to get another opportunity.
"Dean Richards is in the squad and Gus Poyet is back from suspension and I feel he adds some calm to the midfield that is good for us."
