Our captain fantastic will miss the friendly against Holland in Amsterdam on Wednesday alongside Robbie Fowler and Andy Cole.
Coach Eriksson explained: "I have spoken to Robbie Fowler, Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham and I have explained to all of them that the only reason they are not in this squad is simply that this is our last chance to experiment.
"This is the time where we can bring in some new players and see how they do in international football, because after this it will be too late to experiment."
Instead, Bolton's Michael Ricketts and Villa's Darius Vassell join Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Kevin Phillips in the squad.
Erikkson also called up our outstanding defender Ledley King for the first time.
He revealed that he had been impressed with King’s form for some time now, saying: "I saw him play a few times last season and he was playing well then but this season I think he is playing even better.
"He is big, strong and good on the ball too."
In-form Darren Anderton is also in the squad while Matthew Etherington has been selected by David Platt for the Under-21s.
Sven Goran Eriksson has assured Teddy Sheringham that he has only been left out of his latest England squad so he can experiment with other strikers.
