Sutton ready for big test

Posted on 6 February 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Sutton says the confidence of the youth team could be the key to emerging victorious from the FA Youth Cup 5th round tie at Leeds on Wednesday evening.

Our Academy under-18 side travel to Elland Road with the prize on offer a home match with Blackburn - 2-0 winners over Arsenal on Tuesday night. Walsall and Bolton were overcome in previous rounds.

John does admit, however, the the teams will not exactly be familiar with each other.

"We've got a video of them, but don't know a lot about them," said the striker.

"We played them last season at under-17s and beat them 2-1 - but I don't think that's going to mean a great deal.

"As a team we're really condident, we've been playing together a long time now. I suppose the draw could have been a lot kinder to us - three away draws, two Premiership sides."

The bonus of playing Premiership sides does offer the opportunity to play at the top stadiums.

"That's the good thing, we played at the Reebok Stadium the other week, which is superb. Obviously playing at Elland Road is going to be some experience," an experience John hopes will lead to playing in the final, a prospect he is certainly up for.

"I think so. Hopefully we'll go all the way this year - you never know."

The boys shouldn't have anything to fear, they are playing well and sit second in their under-19 league.

"That's right. We've done well this season and if we play to our ability we can go all the way. It's not always easy to do - you can never tell."
