Martin Jol revealed that Mido and Dimitar Berbatov battled against injury and illness respectively to take to the pitch against Liverpool on Saturday.

Mido missed our Boxing Day clash against Aston Villa with a groin injury and was still struggling approaching this weekend while Dimitar was laid low on Friday with a soaring temperature.

In the end, Mido started alongside Jermain Defoe and lasted for 58 minutes before Dimitar was called off the substitutes bench to replace him. Unfortunately, neither could find the target as we went down 1-0 to the Reds.

"Dimitar Berbatov was ill and had nearly a 40 degrees temperature," reported Martin, who is also without Robbie Keane as he recovers from medial ligament damage.

"Mido couldn't play yesterday (Friday) but I said to him he would have to play and he's a good lad, he did a final test before the game and was 80, 90 per cent fit.

"I spoke to Berbatov this morning (Saturday) and asked if he felt better and could sit on the bench, he said yes and maybe he could play for 10 minutes but in the end it was a bit more and I felt he did unbelievably well, on Friday he was in bed with a fever.

"I feel Berbatov will be fine for Portsmouth on Monday."
