Speaking at his pre-match press briefing, the manager admitted that a loan move was not out of the question should he be unable to recruit a long-term solution in the position.
"That is something that might possibly be an option," he considered. "There are players we have identified that might need more finance, if someone goes out it might help that.
"There are other players we might be able to deal with on loan for a shorter period of time, but that would narrow the options.
"There is still some time left before the window shuts and, once it shuts, everyone will know what their squads are and we'll get on with it."
Glenn went on to hint that Ledley King could feature in midfield should a move in the market not transpire. The 22-year-old played in the centre when he broke into the team under the management of George Graham.
"We looking at things, but we do have options. Kazuyuki Toda has played in there but is injured at the moment and Ledley could play there if we don't manage to get anyone in."
Meanwhile, Glenn says his interest in Brazilian midfielder Diego is not at an end.
"There is an interest. It has by no means fallen flat and it is by no means done and dusted. That's all I can really say."
Glenn Hoddle revealed that a central midfielder is still on his shopping list and is hopeful of bringing someone in before the transfer window closes.
