Steven Caulker is set to take the next – and biggest – step of his blossoming career at Manchester City tonight.

The young central defender is expected to make his Premier League debut for Swansea City at the Etihad Stadium.

Steven joined the promoted Swans on a season-long loan on July 1.

Still only 19, our Academy product already has 77 senior professional appearances to his name including his full debut for Spurs in the Carling Cup against Arsenal last season.

He made 44 appearances in League One for Yeovil at the age of 17 and played 29 times for Bristol City in the Championship last term.

Now he’s ready for the worldwide stage of the Premier League with the City match televised live tonight, kick-off 8pm.

“It doesn’t come much bigger than this and I can’t wait,” he said.

“I’ve been looking forward to this moment since I was a little kid and it’s a match to go out and showcase my ability.

“I’m excited and of course at the same time a little apprehensive because we’re up against some of the best players in the world, there is no denying that.

“I have the belief in myself to do well. I want to go out there and enjoy it as well, hopefully play well and get three points or a draw, any positive scoreline would be fantastic.”

Steven felt opponents and pundits alike will be surprised by Swansea’s passing style under manager Brendan Rodgers.

“This is a confident team and very brave in the way they play,” he added. “The team will play football, regardless of the situation.

“The manager has confidence in the players and he’s emphasised throughout pre-season that he wants to play like that. It’s a confident team and they trust every player on the ball."
